I love Coco - Not that Coco

I am beauty obsessed and I am also Coco obsessed.  My favourite Canadian model is Coco Rocha.  Why?
  1. When she speaks she has something worth saying.
  2. She doesn't apologize for her size.  Why should she?
  3. She can work any runway or photo shoot and work it into the ground.  Go girl!
  4. She's beautiful and she gets paid for it, but doesn't trade on it.
  5. She's Canadian, eh? Canadian girls have got it going on.

For more on why I love Coco and why you should too.

Coco is on the advisory board for the Model Alliance.  This organization supports and promotes a safe workplace for models.  As Ms. Rocha points out on her blog Girls in their early teens are often pressured to work long hours for little to no pay. On occasion, these models, thousands of miles from home, are even pushed by adults to compromise their morals and beliefs.

The Model Alliance is a perfect fit for Coco Rocha, who has been pressured in the past to lose weight from her already naturally thin frame.  These days she isn't hired as much for runway work because of her size and age.  Coco is in her mid-twenties and around a size 4.

I love that she speaks out about issues that matter to her, even though there is a chance repercussions may come in the form of less work.  Less work is a big deal in any industry, but especially in an industry where the expiration date is before age 30.

It's a sad comment on society that she has to say I'm a size 4 get over it.  But I'm glad she does it.  Change can come with pressure from the consumer, but also from within the industry itself.
